How A Rescue Is Built

Frame Rail

The chassis is cut to the required length.

A rear end cross member is welded to the chassis.

If the client requries multiple winch location, heavy duty tubing is installed to receive the winch.
A ladder style frame is fabricated utilizing 3" channels.
All components are welded solid to each other as shown to the right. This creates a very strong frame to attach the body to.
Body

The compartments are fabricated per the customer's requirements.

Assembly is performed in such a way to ensure that everything is square and straight, as metal has a tendency to warp when heat is applied due to welding.

The sub-frame and compartment units are assembled.

The main truck body is nearly complete.
The frame sits on the chassis on high density rubber.

The spring tension mounts allow "flex" in respect to the chassis as it drives on un-even roads, providing a longer life.
Once the truck is assembled from the fabrication side of contruction, the body is sent to the sanding room where any necessary repairs to the metal are made and the whole body is sanded smooth.

The body is then ready to be primed for paint.
After the body has been primed, any area that is not to receive paint is masked with tape and paper.
Lighting and Trim

Once the truck is painted and the paint had time to dry properly, the truck is sent to the assembly line where the components and trimmings are installed.
The checker plates, trays, doors and finishing trims are installed.
Light, sensor controls and other components including any electrical outlet supplied by the generator are installed.
Electrical System

The electrical harness is pulled throught he body and each wire brought to its specific location.
The electrical system is a complex arrangement of special components to control and monitor everything on the truck.
Since every truck is custom built for the customer's needs, sometimes sophisticated monitoring equipment, generator and lighting components are required.
Here, the generator is being installed on the roof section of the body.

This will supply electricity to most all lights and electrical outlets.

The generator is normally capable of supplying 12 VDC, 110 VAC & 240 VAC.
The body gets insulated in areas that personnel might occupy.

Other components get installed such as SCBA holding tubes, hose and electrical reels and any other equipment the client has requested.
Testing And Final Touches

Before the truck ships to the customer, it is tested at Seagrave Fire Apparatus Company and/or by ULC depending on the contract spedification and governing regulations.

After the truck passes all required tests, it is cleaned inside and out and the striping and decals are added.

Then the truck is undercoated for preotrection and ready for delivery.
